2-7 Create an Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography is an alphabetic list of citations, in MLA format, for each of the articles, books, and websites that you have gathered while researching your topic.

Each citation is followed by one or more paragraphs which includes the following:

  • an evaluation of the author's authority, purpose, point of view and intended audience
  • a brief summary of the content
  • a statement of how you will use the material in your paper

An annotated bibliography will help you learn more about your topic, making you carefully read each source - reading critically instead of just collecting information.
